As I said a few weeks ago, I’m a sucker for a costume drama and even though I didn’t love every moment of Downton Abbey, I did feel great affection for the characters created over the years. For their growth and lack thereof, for their scheming and serving, for their dreams and attitudes. I, like many, just adored Dame Maggie Smith’s Dowager Countess of Grantham. She was pithy, honest and unapologetic. Dame Maggie Smith is a treasure. I remember seeing her on stage in the West End many years ago in Edward Albee’s Three Tall Women. She was wonderful. Watching her and Dame Judi Dench in The Best Exotic Marigold 2 was such a treat, it is rare that you get to see two powerhouse actresses in one piece. Someday I would love to work with these two women, to learn all that I can by watching masters at work. So as we say goodbye to Downton Abbey, I look forward to Dame Maggie Smith’s next adventure!

Love you Dame Maggie Smith!
